Making a welcome return to The Glee Club, feted singer-songwriter Tom Hickox launches his long-awaited third album “The Orchestra of Stories” in a vibrant show with an expanded, all-star orchestral line-up.

Tom Hickox is a singer, songwriter and composer specialising in the art of storytelling through music. This concert will feature arrangements created especially for the evening from Hickox’s two acclaimed existing albums as well as from The Orchestra of Stories, in which he weaves together a rich tapestry of human narratives, brought to life with grand orchestral ambition and intricate detail. Renowned for his celebrated storytelling and rich baritone, Hickox promises a cinematic sweep of a show, brimming with drama and poignancy.

“In a singer-songwriter scene crowded with sensitive souls crooning about love and desire, Tom Hickox is a rare and bold new talent. His voice is a deep, sonorous baritone painted onto a canvas of noirish rock and darkly cinematic orchestrations conceived with Richard Hawley’s producer Colin Elliot. Sombre, elegant melodies host nuanced, gravely dramatic character studies that have a Pinteresque precision. For my money, Hickox is the most powerful and original lyrical songwriter this country has produced in years, yet it is hard to see where his old-fashioned seriousness fits in this flippant era of brash beats and socially networked hooks. His masterful debut is a strange and beautiful thing, like a lost classic from another age.”

“This one’s a keeper.”

★★★★ MOJO

“A remarkable album...Hickox has a deep, rich voice whose grain and vibrato recall Scott Walker, Neil Hannon and Anohni. Literate chamber pop at its most haunting, poetic and complex.”

Sunday Times Culture

“Hickox’s second album combines magnetic storytelling with vibrant melodies… with an underlying current of melancholy reminiscent of John Grant.”

Uncut

“A dark mixture of Scott Walker and a David Lynch soundtrack.”
