Sophie Willan makes bold and unapologetic work for Screen, Stage and Radio. With a razor sharp and totally authentic comic voice, she exudes confidence and charm. Her comedy is political to the core, but it doesn’t feel like it.
In 2014 Sophie toured her first solo theatre show to over 70 venues across the UK, including a total sell out run at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
In 2015 her refreshing comic style took her to several competition finals including the Magners New Comedian of the Year, where she was crowned the winner. The following year she took her debut stand up show On Record, based on her experiences of growing up in and out of the care system, to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. A total sell out run and phenomenal critical acclaim followed, with a smash hit nationwide tour in 2017 and a commission to adapt the show into a BBC Radio 4 series.
Sophie’s second show Branded was one of the big hits of 2017, achieving another total sell out run at the Fringe, a Herald Angel Award and a nomination for Best Show at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards 2017.
Sophie’s BBC Radio 4 Series, Sophie Willan’s Guide To Normality has been commissioned for a second series due to air July 2019. She is also the Voiceover for The Circle (Channel 4) and has appeared on the likes of, As Yet Untitled (Dave), The Last Leg Correspondents (Channel 4), Live At The Comedy Store (Comedy Central), Up Late With Rylan (Channel 5), Still Open All Hours (BBC One), Click And Collect (BBC One), Class Dismissed (BBC One), The One Show (BBC One)
