Isma Almas is British multi-culturalism at its best: Bradford-born and a childhood split between Pakistan and Yorkshire. Isma’s comedy is fused by her unique take on life as a British Muslim woman.

“One of the most original and charming circuit comedians expertly annihilates whole herds of sacred cows.” Broadway Baby

As well as regular circuit gigs at comedy clubs across the UK, Isma has performed solo shows at the Edinburgh Fringe, at London’s Barbican Centre for Stonewall, at Bradford’s Literature Festival and on a raucous luxury gay cruise around the Med.

With an academic background in Social Sciences and Social Work, Isma’s career outside of comedy has included working in a forensic unit for those with significant mental health problems as well as managing independent fostering agencies. Isma has three children of her own, the youngest of whom is adopted.

“a lot of charm, with a gentle Yorkshire accent and an engaging character that’s mumsy and mischievous at the same time.” The Skinny

Prior to taking time out to adopt and raise her son, Isma won The First Laugh at Sheffield Comedy Festival, was a semi-finalist in So You Think You’re Funny, and was a Funny Women finalist.

“a natural at teasing out the underlying humour from the real-life stories” Chortle

Isma also co-presented the mid-morning show on BBC Radio Leeds for two years, where she interviewed famous (and some now-infamous) names.

A much-needed voice in comedy today, audiences love Isma’s friendly, Bradford-infused, preconception-shattering style.
