2017 was a monumental year for Freya Ridings, filled with highlights that included releasing her debut single ‘Blackout’ to critical acclaim. Produced by Rich Costey (Muse, Biffy Clyro, Frank Turner), it has flown past 2m streams on Spotify, received airplay from the UK to US and had the Sunday Times gushing that Blackout is “A plangent, piano led introduction to an extraordinary talent.”
Freya supported Lewis Capaldi, Tash Sultana, Dotan, Ray LaMontagne, Tears For Fears and Gavin James in 2017. Delivering mesmerizing performances at each and every show, Freya’s ethereal vocals were perfectly captured in her live album ‘Live at St Pancras Old Church’.
Just prior to this, Freya released her second single, ‘Maps’ (a breathtaking version of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs original song) that helped to build upon the foundations that Blackout laid as word begins to spread of this young talent, leading perfectly into Freya’s next release ‘Lost Without You’ that would prove to be Freya’s most reactive track to date.
Mixed by Tom Elmhirst (Adele, Amy Winehouse, David Bowie) the haunting ballad became Apple’s “Best of The Week” track on release, smashed 2 million streams on Spotify in its first month, has found a fan in Taylor Swift who included it in her Songs Taylor Loves Playlist and become a sync favourite having been included in several film and TV trailers as well as picked as the sound-bed to Nokia’s Christmas advert.
In March 2018, Freya will release her debut full-length album (featuring Blackout, Maps and Lost Without You) and accompany this with tours across UK, Europe and America, with sold out shows already in place in London, New York and Los Angeles.
