It’s the post-apocalyptic world. There’s only one contraceptive pill left. Do you give it to your 19-year-old daughter or keep it for yourself? Is it better to be a 40-year-old grandmother or a 40-year-old new Mum. These are the dilemmas facing Emma Doran aged 39 and 7/8’s, even though the most obvious outcome is neither. If turning 40 is the start of something new, what is it the end of? … ah here, where’s me vape?
Emma Doran is one of the most exciting stand-ups to emerge from these shores in years. She’s crammed so much into the last 20 years of her life that she is now officially the voice of 3 generations.
About Emma…
Emma’s jealously of Billy Barry kids came to a boiling point 10 years ago when she decided to do her first stand up gig at the Ha’penny Bridge Inn. It was love/obsession after that first 7 minute set to 20 odd people and she hasn’t stop since only to give birth ocassionally.
Most recently Emma was part of the fab five that made up RTE sketch show No Worries If Not. Emma confirmed her spot on the national broadcaster after achieving huge success with her online comedy sketches. Never forgetting about her stand up roots though she she’s been always been gigging non stop and has performed at some of Ireland’s biggest venues like 3 Arena ( and some of its smallest roughest ones too tbf). After 2 sell out shows in Liberty Hall in 2022 in a couple of days with her show Mad Isn’t It Emma set on chasing those big venues as a headliner (well Vicar street anyway). “2003 saw Emma’s first nationwide tour with 3 nights in Vicar and 2 nights in Soho Theatre, London.
As a regular on televison series like Republic of Telly, Bridget and Eamonn and Callan Kicks over the years Emma has even popped up in Amazon Prime’s series Modern Love in 2022 alongside Kit Harrington.
She’s also been a regular TV and radio contributor on shows like Clear History and if audio is more your thing she has podcast- with her daughter called You’re Grounded.
Not bad for a girl who had a baby during her Leaving Cert, eh?
And she’s not finished yet
Other reasons you might recognise Emma- The Late Late Show in 2022 when she told Ryan Tubridy about the silent ride. Celebrity Ireland’s fittest family when Glenda Gilson tried to drown her, Celebrity Gogglebox 2023 or maybe her instagram and all the videos she films on her cracked samsung phone
2024- hold on tight because there’s a new tour, Amazon Prime TV show and a book coming! And maybe a joint 21st with her daughter Ella
