Dave Spikey’s career at the top table of comedy spans more than 20 years.
In 1996 Dave Spikey and Peter Kay met and went on to change the face of British comedy. Co-writing That Peter Kay Thing they were awarded ‘Best New TV Comedy’ at the British Comedy Awards in 2000.
12 months later they co-wrote and co-starred in the legendary, multi award-winning Phoenix Nights. Further awards and stellar TV appearances followed.
Dave has continued to write and star in primetime TV dramas and films ever since. You’ll have seen him on the big comedy panels shows and now he returns to Glee Club Birmingham with his new show, Punchlines.
Punchlines derive their humour from being unexpected – “Punch” indicating that the “Line” should always come as a surprise or shock. The major school of thought suggests that few punchlines are funny out of context. There is another school of thought (actually Dave’s school of thought) that the opposite can be true. In this new show he will present evidence to support this.
He quotes: – “Bob? Who’s Bob?” / “Have you got bunk beds?” / “Eileen, bring me a cloth.” Then of course there’s nuns. Nuns in baths, nuns on bikes and that lion walking in a pub; not to mention the bloke with the big orange head.
